HBC Assistant Director (Education, Learning and Skills 0-19)
I graduated from Warwick University with an honours degree in Physics and subsequently a PGCE in science and mathematics. I taught secondary age young people for nearly 20 years in North Tyneside. During that time I was a Head of Year, Head of Department and a senior leader. I hold the NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship). I was seconded into local authority work initially to build systems and processes to aid collaborative learning between secondary schools. Building Schools for the Future then came along and I was the educational lead for authority’s Strategy for Change. My final two years in North Tyneside were spent overseeing and improving the support to all schools around inclusion, specifically SEND and English as an Additional Language (EAL). During my time in North Tyneside I become a school inspector working for Ofsted and then became a Lead Inspector, leading inspection teams in pre- and post-16 institutions.
I began working for Hartlepool local authority in November 2012 as a Senior School Improvement Adviser, leading the authority’s school improvement team. Having built up very effective working relationships with providers in Hartlepool I was then successful in gaining promotion to the post of Assistant Director in April 2015.
